Dear all,
Today's news has been phenomenal: President Obama has asked the State Department to review the proposed route for the Keystone XL pipeline, a move that will effectively delay the pipeline decision until after the 2012 election.
While part of me wants to continue protesting just as hard in order to get Obama to reject the pipeline outright, this move has nonetheless shifted things considerably.
Those of us putting together our protest action in Williamstown this Saturday have decided to call off our plans while looking for the next best place to devote our energies. In this, I expect to take cues from www.tarsandsaction.org and www.350.org, in addition to being ready to jump if things again come to a head.
Finally, it goes without saying that we should work to get President Obama reelected and put a Democratic majority back in both the House and Senate. A Republican president would mean speedy approval for the pipeline, to say the least.
Thank you again for all your support and enthusiasm. This has been a collective fight from the beginning, and we have won a collective victory!
Please stay in touch — I promise I will!
All best,
Anne O'Connor
